The Player Schneklud (1894) by Paul Gauguin is a vintage post impressionism fine art portraiture painting. A portrait of the Swedish musician cellist Fritz Schneklud playing music on his stringed musical instrument, the cello. About the artist: Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was a leader in the Post Impressionist movement which extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations. They used vivid colors, thick application of paint, distinctive brushstrokes and real-life subject matter, but were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms and to use unnatural or arbitrary color.
