Plump Eastern Gray Squirrel Postcard Taken 11.26.2015 - A plump eastern gray squirrel at the birdfeeder in Stillwater, Maine. He was alert to my presence, standing still with his paws together over his chest. The eastern gray squirrel has grayish-brown fur, except for its belly, which has pale fur. Also known as a tree squirrel, it has a slender, lanky body, long, muscular limbs, and furred feet. Its large, bright eyes convey an alert demeanour, and the broad, short head tapers to a rounded muzzle adorned with long whiskers. Its bushy tail often has silvery-tipped hairs at the end. The squirrel is the Native American symbol for preparation, trust and thriftiness. The word "squirrel" means "shadow tail" in Greek.PC:404.469
