Portugal in photos - Bom Jesus Sanctuary, Braga Magnet

Braga is a town in the north of Portugal, in the Minho region. It has a large concentration of religious architecture and known as the religious center of the country.  Religious celebrations are still very alive in this city The spectacular sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte evokes the Passion of Jesus. It has a baroque staircase with more than 500 steps. As the stairs ascend the mount there are a number of landings, on each of these are grottoes, fountains, allegorical statues and friezes depicting the live of Christ. It’s made of dark granite and white plaster, and zigzags all the way to the top, leading to the church.  The vista from the top of the hill alone is worth the climb with views out over the city of Braga and surroundings. Bom Jesus do Monte is still an important pilgrimage site and is the city's number one tourist destination.
