Postcard - Historic Street: Lawrence, Kansas

Postcard - Historic Street: Lawrence, Kansas

Take a stroll through time in my hometown of Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence, Kansas is the only city in the United States that was formed entirely for political purposes just prior to the American Civil War. Here is an architectural and vehicular history of the town along Vermont Street that was echoed across the country. I couldn't help but be struck by the progression: a church (belief), a library (community), and a microwave tower (a voice). This is the story of each of our lives. Foreground: Plymouth Congregational Church, first church in Kansas territory (dedicated 1870). Middle: Carnegie Library (1906), Background: Microwave Tower (1986). ......................................................... Wikipedia...................................................... The Territory of Kansas was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from May 30, 1854, until January 29, 1861, when the eastern portion of the territory was admitted to the Union as the state of Kansas. A Carnegie library is a library built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. 2,509 Carnegie libraries were built between 1883 and 1929. ................................................Artist....................................................................... Mary Ellen Anderson is a contemporary American oil painter residing in Lawrence, Kansas USA. She is known for her oil paintings that blend ultra-realism and impressionism into a unique style that is reminiscent of Renaissance masters. Common themes are mid-west and western landscapes, portraits, and nature.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
