Puerto Rico Traditional Drinks. Mavi, Coquito, Pitorro. Mavi is made with the bark of the mavi tree that is boiled, sometimes with spices like ginger and cinnamon, or fruit is added for different flavors. An alcoholic version is made by fermenting this with mixture with sugar. Pitorro is Puerto Rico’s version of Moonshine, and not something that you will easily find. Coquito is Puerto Rico’s favorite drink for the holydays, and is in fact our version of Eggnog, but without the egg-y flavor.
