Kazimierz Pułaski, a Polish nobleman, came to America to fight for our independence. He saved the life of George Washington at the Battle of Brandywine. Pulaski organized a cavalry legion, was named by Congress to head the fledgling American cavalry, and became known as the "Father of the American Cavalry." Sadly, he died October 11, 1779 at the age of 34, of wounds suffered in the Battle of Savannah.
