The foamy surf of the Caribbean surrounds a queen conch on a beach in Treasure Cay, Abaco, the Bahamas.
The queen conch Lobatus gigas is herbivorous and lives in seagrass beds, although its habitat varies by development stage. The adult animal has a very large, solid and heavy shell, with knob-like spines on the shoulder, a flared thick, outer lip and a characteristic pink-colored opening.
International trade in the Caribbean queen conch is regulated under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) agreement, in which it is listed as Strombus gigas. This species is not endangered in the Caribbean as a whole, but is commercially threatened in numerous areas, largely due to extreme overfishing.
The meat of the queen conch is featured in many Caribbean dishes, such as conch fritters, chowder and salad. The empty shells are used widely as decoration.

Ordered this as a surprise for my nephew’s first birthday. It came out beautiful! So many joyful tears were she’d when it was unwrapped. Why then did I give this 4 stars? I made three attempts to order this through the app on my iPhone. First time, got all the pics loaded, clicked to resize it and lost everything. I tried again, this time, when I clicked on the “add to cart” button, the button froze and I couldn’t buy it. I nearly gave up. Three days later, I tried one more time and it went through that time. On a positive note, the collage came in record time, arriving the day before the party, though it was scheduled to arrive afterward. Overall, excellent product. High quality, well worth the $$$. Gorgeous!!! Paper quality is superb! Colors are vibrant! Everything is aligned beautifully. Only flaw, the picture had a 2 in scratch directly through the main photo. It’s an obvious scratch, one I was initially very bothered by. The sender had to have seen it and yet, still mailed it as it. I would have asked for a new one had I not needed to gift it the very next day. Otherwise, it’s stunning. I would definitely purchase again.
