Rainbow lorikeet juvenile Trichoglossus moluccanus Large Clock
This illustration depicts a juvenile Rainbow Lorikeet, historically labeled in French as “Perruche à tête bleue, dans son jeune âge.” The artwork, attributed to Jacques Barraband, exemplifies the precision and elegance of early natural history illustration.
The bird is shown perched on a textured, curved branch, its posture alert yet calm. Its plumage is predominantly green across the body and wings, providing effective camouflage in its native forest habitats. The head, however, is a striking deep blue, a defining characteristic of the species, though in juveniles this coloration can appear slightly duller or less saturated than in adults. Subtle yellow-green tones emerge around the chest and underparts, indicating transitional plumage as the bird matures.
The beak is curved and robust, adapted for feeding on nectar, pollen, and soft fruits—key components of the lorikeet’s specialized diet. Its eye, rendered with a vivid reddish hue, adds a focal point of intensity to the composition. The tail feathers extend long and tapered, balancing the bird visually and aiding in agile flight through dense foliage.
Rainbow lorikeets are native to Australia and surrounding regions, thriving in coastal bushlands, rainforests, and urban areas. Juveniles like the one depicted undergo gradual color development before reaching the full vibrancy seen in adults. This illustration not only captures anatomical accuracy but also reflects the scientific curiosity of its era, serving both as art and documentation of avian biodiversity.

Great price for a very nice product. Arrived a day early - unheard of these days. The outside gold area has a little more orange tone to it than shown in the picture. Great packing so product can't get damaged. I used the same packing to forward the clock to my brother and sister-on-law for the 50th wedding anniversary. Printing was just as expected - lovely!

My 93- yr. old Dad has everything.....and now including a clock with pictures of him in action!
Was initially a bit difficult to size & position the pictures in each space, but the end product was worth the effort. He enjoyed it and it was definitely a unique way of memorializing good times in his life. Quality of print was good.
