Remember Joe Hill CC0803 Flower power collage Postcard

I could say I have known the Swedish-American union activist Joe Hill all my life. In music lessons at junior school we sometimes sang a song about him, Alfred Hayes' well-known 'I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night Alive as you or me...' Some years later I watched Bo Widerberg's movie (1971) and found out a little more about him, about his involvement in the IWW union movement and how he died. Yesterday I again had news about him, now there has been a hundred years since his unjust trial and execution by firing squad (the 19th of November). Now it seems to me that he was as much an artist as an activist. He wrote music and painted pictures, and in his last days he stated: I have lived like an artist and I will die like one. I was also touched by a few lines in his final will: Let the merry breezes blow My dust to where some flowers grow. Perhaps some fading flower then Would come to life and bloom again. When I read that, I wanted to make my own tribute to Joe Hill. I wanted to add those words and the re-blooming flowers to his portrait and make a postcard with the joyful flowery visionary feel of the sixties. Now re-bloom, Joe Hill! I thought. :) There are not many portraits of Joe Hill to choose from, but I kind of like the photo from the arrest record. Those kind of photos are rarely flattering, but still there seems to be an openness in his gaze that touched my heart.
