Despite what Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in his opinion in Shelby County v Holder, we still need the Voting Rights Act. As we've seen in several elections in different places across the country, voting suppression is still happening in the United States. Closing polling places, making mail-in ballots difficult to obtain (especially during a pandemic), creating ID requirements in a country in which you are not required to have ID and in counties where it is difficult to obtain identification, not making election day a holiday, and modern poll taxes are just some of the ways federal, state, and local political leaders create to suppress the vote and keep people from voting.
