Rod of Asclepius Neck Tie (Light Scrubs Green)
This neck tie bears the Rod of Asclepius on a background that is a tint of hospital scrubs green. Not to be confused with the caduceus, the Rod of Asclepius is a simple stick entwined with a snake. + No one knows when or why exactly the snake and stick were originally paired, but scholars theorize. According to ancient Greek mythology, Asclepius was the son of Apollo, the first physician, and the god of medicine. Stories connecting Asclepius and snakes are too numerous to recount in this small space. Suffice it to say Aesculapian snakes, a special non-poisonous variety, were introduced in each temple dedicated to the god as part of the foundation ritual. Thereafter, they roamed freely even in the ‘dormitories’ where the sick and injured slept. Because they shed their skins, snakes were associated with death and rebirth and, by extension, illness and recovery. The stick may simply represent an itinerant physician’s walking stick. Another interesting explanation for the symbol has been posited though: There is a variety of skin-burrowing worm that was removed from painful surface blisters in antiquity by gradually twining it around a stick. Except for the stick being replaced by gauze, the modern treatment for Guinea worm infestation remains the same. Regardless, the Rod of Asclepius has endured as the emblem of medical professionals to the present day. + BTW... St. Luke the Evangelist is the principal patron saint of doctors and surgeons. I bought this tie for a cosplay of Haruhi Fujioka for Halloween and anime conventions. It feels very nice and silky. It's my first tie ever, and I'm a pretty big fan since I always wanted a tie. It was longer than I expected it to be (quite a plus), but the purple stripe was also thinner than I expected it to be (a slight bit of a downer, but I don't mind too much). I had never used Zazzle before, but I am very impressed with the shipping time. I was looking for places to get a tie like this so last minute since the ties like this on Amazon were incompatible with Prime. Thus, I ended up here. I paid for express shipping, expected delivery October 30-31, and it arrived in the morning on the 30th. Very impressed. I might just use Zazzle again. The print job was okay. The colors were perfect, but as you can see in the pictures, the stripe was a little off-center, and there was a kink in the stripe around where it transitions from the wide end to the thin end. It should work perfectly for my cosplay, but it was a little too carelessly print to be a very professional tie.

The Pageant Tie is just what I wanted and everyone at church wants one. I have worn it several days now and each day more people come to me to see it and say how great it is. The printing is just as it should be. Each photo is clear and the color is great.

It is a well made tie. My only issue is that it's a little shorter than I usually get, but it's still long enough. The design and colors of the hibiscus flowers was amazing. The right combination of pop and fading into the background. The colors stand out, but aren't overpowering.
