Round Blue Sea Waves Pocket Watch

[Maruni Seigaiha] Ripples/The Aomi wave pattern was popular during the Edo period. This design was devised by Kanshichi AOMI, a lacquer craftsman in the Genroku era. Seikai-nami is the name of a piece of gagaku (ancient Japanese court dance and music), because he wears a ho (outer robe) of shitagasane (a kind of costume) with a pattern of Sekai-nami (Blue Sea wave) when he dances. It was a continuous pattern of waves like a four-part vortex, but during the Bunroku era, Kanshichi OMI spread this pattern especially.
