Salazar was an Economics professor at the University of Coimbra when he was asked to take the reins of the Portuguese government as Prime Minister, but actually ruled as dictator until 1968 when he was replaced by Marcelo Caetano. Salazar was ruthless and was very cavalier about the using the secret police to impose his will and silence his opponents. During World War II, Salazar admired Fascism, but played a game of neutrality between the Allies and Axis powers. This mug is an excellent gift for a historian or a person who enjoys history.
