Salvator Mundi 1500 Leonardo da Vinci Postcard
Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci ~ 1500. When the ~ 1500 Leonardo da Vinci ‘Cook Version’ (beautiful all color blue robe) Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World / Savior of the World) magnificently restored oil on walnut panel sold at New York Christie’s Auction 15 November 2017 for the jaw dropping $400 million US with Christie’s Auction fees of $50,312,500 added totalling $450,312,500 … more often stated as sold for over $450.3 million US, I instantly regretted not having studied my art history, particularly Leonardo da Vinci, enough! It was also stated that it was believed that some 75% of Leonardo da Vinci’s known works have been lost or possibly destroyed! Some likely had been destroyed in Leonardo da Vinci’s own lifetime by the evil extremist Christian Florentine Dominican friar monk Girolamo Savonarola who riled up the masses into burning 'deviants' at the stake, burning most precious artworks, burning important books, even forcing artists to burn their own paintings! Fortunately, Leonardo and his apprentice workshop boys had moved away from Florence to Milan. This no doubt saved Leonardo's life. When the French King Francis I became king upon the death of King Louis XII (Leonardo's wealthy patron for this Salvator Mundi), the young king invited Leonardo along with Leonardo's long term younger companion and care giver Francesco Melzi to come live in the home adjacent to the king's Palace Amboise which had a connecting tunnel through which the young king could privately visit Leonardo at any time. This was where Leonardo died in 1519 over 500 years ago. Leonardo willed all his journals and notebooks with all his ideas to Francesco Melzi who organized them and preserved them to his own death 51 years later! These included Leonardo's ideas for plans for cities, palaces, cathedrals, flying machines, underwater breathing devices diving gear, studies of human proportion, human anatomy, equine anatomy, intricate geometric patterns as found on Salvator Mundi, studies of light, shadow, reflected light and color, military mechanisms, studies of portraits of all kinds of people, studies of hands and mouths and swirling hair and swirling water, geometric proportions.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
