Located in the White Mountains of Crete, the Samaria Gorge is one of Europe's longest and most spectacular canyons. The hike descends from the Omalos plateau through dense cypress and pine forests to the shores of the Libyan Sea. The most dramatic point is the 'Iron Gates,' where the gorge walls narrow to just four meters wide while soaring 300 meters high. It is a rugged landscape of limestone cliffs, crystalline streams, and the occasional sighting of the rare Cretan ibex.
