Scottish Independence John Maclean Aye Badge Pinback Button

A badge for supporters of independence for Scotland from the UK Westminster government and admirers of the great Scottish socialist John Maclean. This illustration is from a vintage Russian stamp struck in his honour. I've added the word Aye and a starburst of coloured line graphics in dark red, blue and green. Born in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, the former schoolteacher fought for the rights of the common man, ending up in prison for his beliefs. He was elected to the chair of the Third All-Russian Congress of Soviets in 1918 when he was made Bolshevik consul in Scotland. He founded the Scottish Workers Republican Party and supported Scottish independence. His health was broken in prison and he died aged 44. Loved by the people, over 20,000 lined the streets at his funeral.
