This significant oil painting, created between 1884 and 1886, is considered the masterpiece of French artist Georges Seurat. It's a key work of the Neo-Impressionist movement and a prime example of Pointillism. Seurat used small, distinct dots of pure color that visually blend when viewed from a distance, creating solid forms. The painting depicts Parisians relaxing by the Seine River. The figures, though in a leisurely setting, appear composed and somewhat static, resembling classical friezes.
