Shadowed Matsukawabishi Golf Ball Marker

The character "hishi" or "bishi" refers to a shape formed by combining two equilateral triangles (a geometrically precise diamond/lozenge shape). However, according to Masami Takeda, an author and former uwagaki-shi (designer of overglaze designs), in his 1925 publication "Monsho," creating a family crest using this precise diamond shape results in a design that appears too short and weak. He therefore explains an alternative method for designing a more aesthetically pleasing diamond shape for monsho (family crests). The Matsukawabishi and Sangai-bishi designs are based on the geometric diamond rather than the monsho diamond.
