Across the Seine from Notre Dame located at 37 rue de la Bucherie, 75005 is "Shakespeare and Company Kilometer Zero Paris"...This charmingly bohemian bookshop originally owned by Sylvia Beach in another location was a hang out for American writers, Hemingway and Fitzgerald in the 1920's. Today the bookstore is run by George Whitman's daughter. If you are a published author or aspiring writer, you may be able to live above Shakespeare and Company temporarily if you promise to read a book a day and spend a few hours bookselling. It's easy to lose track of time browsing the floor to ceiling wooden bookcases in this warm and quirky new, used and antiquarian bookshop!
