Shar Pei Dog, Ollantaytambo, Peru Postcard
"Shar Pei Dog, Ollantaytambo, Peru, Market" by Catherine Sherman. This friendly Shar Pei dog guards his corner of a market in Ollantaytambo, Peru. The Shar Pei, which originated in China, is considered one of the most rare dog breeds. Its name derives from the Cantonese words for "sand skin; and refers to the texture of its short, rough coat. As puppies, Shar Pei have numerous wrinkles, but as they mature, these wrinkles loosen and spread out as they grow into their skin. Shar Pei were named in 1978 as one of the world's rarest dog breeds by TIME magazine and the Guinness World Records. The American Kennel Club did not recognize the breed until 1991." width="500" height="332" /> This friendly Shar Pei dog patrols his corner of a market in Ollantaytambo, Peru. Ollantaytambo is a town and an Inca archaeological site in southern Peru about 45 miles (72 km) by road northwest of the city of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 9,160 feet (2,792 m) above sea level in the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba, Cusco region. During the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti, who conquered the region and built the town and a ceremonial center. At the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru, it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance. The city is in what is called the Sacred Valley of the Incas and is an important tourist attraction on account of its Inca ruins and its location en route to one of the most common starting points for the four-day, three-night hike known as the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was thought to be another residence for Pachacuti.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
