Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus) This species has an extensive territorial claim across the North American continent. Throughout the year, populations occur in the Republic of Nicaragua, Republic of Honduras and the Republic of Guatemala. In the United Mexican States, these raptors live in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Morelos, Mexico, Ciudad de Mexico, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Michoacan, Queretaro, Jalisco, Guanajato, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Durango, Coahuila, Monterrey, Chihuahua and Sonora. In the United States of America, their range is from New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York State and all of the New England States, and North, along the lower coastal regions of Alaska. Breeding grounds are common throughout most of the rest of the State. In Canada, the Hawk is found only during the breeding season, in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba. These Hawks breed in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick, but it's year round only in the Southern Districts. It's found throughout the year Nova Scotia, and in the Southern Districts of Newfoundland and Labrador. The 1 Province with almost no sightings is Nunavut, where the bird breeds only in the lower Southwest region. Pictured here is an adult female.
