This image is from John Tenniel's original illustration for Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. It depicts a hookah-smoking caterpillar giving advice to Alice and was made in 1865.~ I've hand-colored the original black and white illustration.
"The small symbol in the lower left is composed of Tenniel's initials, which was how he signed most of his work for the book. The partially obscured word in the lower left-center is the last name of Edward Dalziel, the engraver of the piece.

The shirt is good quality and fits just fine, but the colors of the printing are not as bright as in the sample photo. Not the best. The colors are a lot brighter in the sample photo; when I received the shirt they appeared faded. The red looks a little more pink and the blue is a lot lighter. N.B. I did not wash the shirt yet.
