Simeon Solomon Night and her child Sleep CC0270 Postcard

Postcard inspired by a chalk drawing by British painter Simeon Solomon, titled Night and her child Sleep (1892). Simeon Solomon (1840–1905) was noted for his depictions of Jewish life and same-sex desire. Night and sleep was another subject that fascinated him, and one that he returned to repeatedly. Looking at this picture, I think I can actually feel what it means to fall asleep. Perhaps you can, too? There seems to be a lot of trust involved. To let go of ordinary life and allow the passage into another reality. Not always very easy.
