Siren Loreley This is the legend of Loreley. Spurned by her lover, in an act of desperation she throws herself from a rock cliff above the River Rhine to her demise in the icy waters below. That cliff now bears her name and the sound of the gurgling water echoing off the rocks gives this section of the river an enchanted feeling. The churning waters create a humming sound which can be mistaken for that of a woman's voice softly singing. That intriguing sound lures passing ships closer to shore and to the rocks that lie there. The siren Loreley is a ghostly vision with a heart grown as stone cold as the waters flowing below her. This is the tale of a beautiful siren who beckons sailors to come closer to her and to the cliff on which she sits. If they do they are doomed to lose their ship to a rocky coast and their lives to the cold waters that surround it.
