This image comes from a colorized circa 1885 photograph by noted Western Americana photographer David Francis Barry, (1854-1934). Barry's work is renowned for its clarity, dignity, and documentary importance, making this portrait one of the most recognized and iconic images of Sitting Bull and of Native American culture.
