SMA Awareness Month Mandala T-Shirt

Drawn by the incredible woman behind Sassy Coloring and digitally colored by B4SMA Productions' own MJ, this mandala-style design features the pillars on which the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Community is built. Starting with the SMA Awareness Ribbon in the four (4) corners of the outer edge and where the mandala begins. Next, come the leaves and flowers that represent the ever-growing number of individuals and families affected by SMA. Each flower and leaf appear to be identical with a quick glance but if you look a little closer you'll see that they are all unique. What makes them different is what makes them beautiful. The banners on top and bottom are simply stating that the design is for SMA Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness month. August is the month that the international community recognizes as awareness month however the design purposely does not include that as every day of every week of every month is an opportunity to raise awareness. The banners on the left and right have words that are significant to the SMA community and generally considered powerful words of encouragement; Dream, Support, Hope, Listen, Trust, & Believe. The hands that form hearts symbolize interconnectedness and support found within a community that is as diverse as our world. The hearts are layered and shaded in different sizes and while there are parts that appear black and white, like the lives of those impacted by SMA nothing is ever as easy as it appears to be. The center features a shape that appears to be circular but has points that may be easily overlooked but could also be a stumbling block if you're not ready for them. Finally, there is a flower blooming in the center. Flowers can be symbolic of many different things; growth, change, rebirth, strength, and overcoming, all of which are significant aspects of life, with or without SMA. This design is completed with vibrant colors to represent the various organizations that support families and research for treatment and a cure for SMA. The colors also represent the personalities and lifestyles of people impacted by SMA. This design was created with all people in mind and it is our hope to appeal to every facet of the community.
