The past 24 hours has been highly-stressful both for ostriches in British Columbia, Canada and their owners. You may have heard the news about the Universal Ostrich Farm and Katie Pasitney's story of her arrest (and her mother) during a confrontation by CFIA and the RCMP. Fortunately, according to Shaughn.SGT(ret) who goes by @PrairieVeteran on X (formerly Twitter) a Ret. Army Engineer Sgt: "hay bails used to coral the birds have been hauled off site by their contractor; Holiday Inn evicted ALL CFIA workers and RCMP; a car rental company cancelled contract for their vehicles; a hazardous waste company cancelled their contract for clean up; and an equipment rental agency took back their areal [sic] aerial lift platforms saying they will not be used for sniper platforms." It's also notable that Brenda Bernhardt, a retired veterinarian, was among those showing public support at the ostrich farm. I was encouraged that the Executive Director of the Okanagan Humane Society issued a public statement (snippet only): "Today at OHS ... We stand with the Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, BC. Part of a letter sent to CFIA September 21, 2025: The Okanagan Humane Society requests a further stay for the Ostrich Farm Cull, and calls for a scientific review of this and the protocols and processes which have lead to the decisions made by CFIA, including disclosure of the scientific basis leading to the decisions made." Specialty coffee represents a higher quality of carefully grown and harvested coffee. To be considered a "specialty coffee", a minimum of 80 points must be earned. Those scoring 80 and above are among the highest-quality coffees in the world.
