Snow Bunting by John James Audubon, Birders Bird Button

The Snow Bunting is found in the northern half of the United States and throughout Canada. It nests in the Arctic, building it's nest in between rocks while there is still snow on the ground and temperatures still well below freezing. Snow Buntings go through a number of plumage variations with each season. Coloration ranges from nearly all white to having a lot of brown. The illustration was painted with watercolor paints and pen-and-ink by French artist and ornithologist John James Audubon.
