Sockeye Salmon - Alaska Postage Poker Cards

Sockeye Salmon - Alaska Postage Poker Cards

This is one of a series of postage stamps of an imaginary independent Alaska. It depicts a male sockeye salmon, hovering over a rocky streambed with the red coloration, humped back and hooked snout characteristic of spawning. Text reading, "Alaska", POSTAGE 25 NUGGETS", "Sockeye Salmon" and "Oncorhynchus nerka" also appear. Text reading, "2024" indicates the year of issue. Customize by adding your own additional text. The sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka), aka red salmon, is found in the Northern Pacific Ocean and rivers discharging into it. Sockeyes take on a bright red coloration during spawning. Males, particularly, develop a humped back and hooked snout. Some populations, referred to as kokanee, do not migrate to the ocean and live their entire lives in fresh water. Oncorhynchus is from the Greek ὄγκος (onkos) meaning "barb", and ῥύγχος (rhynchos) meaning "snout". Nerka is the Russian word for the anadromous form. The name "sockeye" is an anglicization of suk-kegh (sθə́qəy̓), its name in Halkomelem, the language of the indigenous people along the lower reaches of the Fraser River (one of British Columbia's many native Coast Salish languages). Suk-kegh means "red fish".

Creator Review
I love everything about these cards except for the box. I wish there was a way to see the entire card design through the window. Other than that, the cards themselves are great. The printing is crisp and clear and the colors are vibrant. These cards do a good job of showing off my Create With Photos Oyster Flower designs. The cards printed as shown in the preview.

THESE LOOK INCREDIBLE. They are so high quality. Not super plastic, but great paper for the price. The acrylic box too! WOW!
