Spenger’s Grotto wasn’t fancy, but it didn’t need to be. It was the creaky old spot on Fourth Street that smelled like chowder, beer, and salt in the floorboards. You went there to crack crab with a mallet, to get lost in the ship wheels and harpoons on the walls, and to feel like you’d stepped onto your grandpa’s idea of a pirate ship. Birthdays, awkward dates, messy family dinners—whole generations ran through that maze of a dining room.
