This painting is of the old Spanish fort located in St. Augustine, Florida. The city of St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish, and one of the most enduring legacies is the Spanish fort, now called Castillo de san Marcos, but also known as Fort Marion. The Spanish fort is located at the edge of St. Augustine, and sits on the Matanzas River, built to protect the Colonial Spanish citizens of St. Augustine.
