St. John's Wort, Botanical Flower Print Postcard
Beautiful antique botanical image, over 112 years old. The flowers and ferns in this collection are reproduced from original Victorian chromolithographs by Anne Pratt. These were taken from a disbound set of volumes of 'The Flowering Plants of Great Britain', undated but published by Frederick Warne before 1891 (British Library catalogue). This is not from the revised edition which was published somewhat later. The Victorian prints themselves are becoming increasingly rare as the stock of original editions is obviously diminishing. The plates were all in bright condition with the minor but characterful age-toning and/or foxing which is to be expected from antique prints. I have left the odd mark here and there as I think it gives character. Anne Pratt (5th December 1806 - 1893) was a highly-skilled, self-taught botanical artist and was one of the most well-known illustrators of her era.
