St. Tikhon of Zadonsk was an 18th century Russian bishop in the Orthodox Christian church. He entered a seminary under a state grant at 16. He was a gifted orator and writer and sought to revitalize the spiritual life both in the community and monasteries. He slived a strict ascetic life and worked hard physical labor. His reputation for piety, humility, kindness and wisdom drew many people to the monastery in search of his blessing and advice. His life and works inspired the famous Russian writer, Dostoevsky, who reflected them in the characters. PLEASE NOTE: Most of the icons are very old.
