The Pennsylvania Journal ran this satirical ad on October 24, 1765 to protest the passage of the Stamp Act. With the text "This Is the Place to Affix the Stamp," the Pennsylvania Journal and Weekly Advertiser used the skull and crossbones symbolized the death of the free press resulting from passage of the act.
