Suijin Shrine Massaki Hiroshige Japanese Fine Art

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 – October 12, 1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, and one of the last great artists in that tradition. Suijin Shrine and Massaki on the Sumida River (Sumidagawa Suijin no Mori Massaki) (8th Month, 1856). This site may have been the original mouth of the Sumida, Edo's most important river. The double-petaled cherry blossoms in the foreground are a fragrant late-blooming hybrid cherry.
