Simultaneously there is a total lunar eclipse, visible in North and South America and the western portions of Europe and Africa. Other areas in Africa, Europe and Asia will see a partial eclipse. The total lunar eclipse is known as a Blood Moon for its deep red blood-like color during totality. Only some total eclipses of the Moon are also Supermoons. These are especially dramatic and fun to watch in the night sky.
