Along with the chrysanthemum crest, the paulownia crest had auspicious significance and was an authoritative crest, so it was used from long ago as a design on armor, swords, and their accessories. However, in the era of Hideyoshi, it was further applied to general arts and crafts, so the paulownia crest became unprecedentedly popular. Everything from clothing and furnishings to architectural carvings used this design, and it was known as "Taiko-giri," forming a grand and bold style. It is said that almost no art works from the Momoyama period do not feature some application of this design. ("Nihon Monshogaku")

My 11 yo wore adult XL (5’7” 165#). The 8yo is small framed. She wore adult small and tied it in the back. Dark haired male wore adult large and 5’9”, 110# female wore adult medium . Good quality dark Heather gray, Gildan brand shirt. -it was next up from basic choice and cost about $20 per shirt. Not too thick or thin. Washed and dried well, no major shrinkage. Not see-through. Can wear a bra under it fine. Screen print is just as shown and well done, front and back.
