Team Jean II (the Good) Button
King Jean (John) II was the second King in the House of Valois. He was captured by the English at the Battle of Poitiers, six years after coming to the throne.
After spending several years as the prisoner of King Edward (including spending Christmases with the royal family and being visited by Edward's mother Isabella of France), Jean was released in return for a ransom, with his son Louis acting as surety for the money. When Louis escaped captivity, Jean returned to England and placed himself back in the hands of King Edward. He died in England after a short illness.
