Being deaf in one ear means that you have no depth of sound. It's all coming in through the same hearing channel, so you have no way of knowing its direction either. Trying to distinguish a voice spoken in the room from one spoken at the same time on the television is impossible. It results in horrible white noise and a head-ache.
