About this design
Thangka Art Calendar 2013
Beautiful and Inspirational Buddha Calendar / Tibetan Art Calendar 2013 The Buddhas, Mandalas and Tibetan Symbols on this Buddhist Calendar will inspire you all year long! It also makes a wonderful gift. Thangka Paintings -traditional Tibetan scroll paintings- are a medium through which the Buddhist philosophy can be explained. Originally, Tibetan lamas used scroll paintings to instruct the Buddhist Teachings. In Tibet, these paintings were easily transported and unrolled to suit the needs of the mainly nomadic population. The lama would go to a village, unroll a thangka and use it to illustrate their tales on buddhist philosophy when narrating before an audience. Each Buddha stands for a certain characteristic; for example the Medicine Buddha stands for Healing and White Tara is the Long Life Buddha. Images include: Medicine Buddha (Healing), White Tara (Longevity), Green Tara (Helping those in need), Avalokiteshvara / Tib.: Chenrezig (Compassion), Mandala of the 5 Elements (Earth - Water - Fire - Air - Space), Tara (Protecting from poisons), Vajra / Tib.: Dorje (Absolute Stability), Padmasambhava / Tib.: Guru Rinpoche (Brought the tantra to Tibet), Mandala of Avalokiteshvara / Tib.:Chenrezig (Compassion), Vajrayogini (Transforming Passion into Compassion), Offering Dakini (with mantra Om Mani Padme Hum) and Amitayus (Buddha of Infinite Life).
