The California Condor is a magnificent bird - Postcard But it's *Endangered*, as there are less than 500 alive today (Jan 2018) in all the universe and California. And half of those are in zoos for their own protection and/or for safe breeding. The dangers to the California Condor include encountering pollution or toxic agricultural chemicals (DDT was an awful chemical with terrible effects on wildlife and farm animals, and people), and poaching. But the greatest danger of all is the condor eating carrion (dead animal) killed by lead shot. Lead is a serious nerve agent, it can cause infertility too and birth defects. If you are a hunter you should know you risk your and your family's health when you shoot animals with lead shot and bring the carcass home to eat. And when you're hunting and shoot an animal with lead shot and can't find it, and then a condor or other predator comes along and does eat the dead thing, they are the ones to suffer and die or get really sick. Shame on you. Behave like a responsible adult, If you have to hunt, then you need to follow best hunting practice.
