The Day After (by Edvard Munch) Magnet

This design features a print by the Norwegian expressionist artist Edvard Munch (1863–1944). It shows a woman lying lifelessly on her bed. There are glasses of alcohol on the table beside her. She could have killed herself, perhaps by swallowing poison with the drink, or she could simply be in a drunken stupor after a wild night of drinking wine and spirits. One art critic said at the time that the woman appeared to be a drunken prostitute, however, there is no reason to believe that. The woman has a sublime beauty as she lies sprawled out on the bed; her long hair and arm are hanging off the side of the matress. The original print was done in 1895, and it is now housed in the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo, Norway.
