The great wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai

The great wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai

A mirrored version of the famous Great Wave of Kanagawa from the 36 views of the Fuji. There are no boats and the wave crests are birds.A Showa period woddblock print with a golden background. The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏 Kanagawa Oki Nami Ura?, lit. "Under a Wave off Kanagawa"), also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. An example of ukiyo-e art, it was published sometime between 1830 and 1833[2] (during the Edo Period) as the first in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjūrokkei (富嶽三十六景?)), and is his most famous work. This particular woodblock is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world. It depicts an enormous wave threatening boats near the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa. While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is, as the picture's title notes, more likely to be a large okinami lit. "wave of the open sea." As in all the prints in the series, it depicts the area around Mount Fuji under particular conditions, and the mountain itself appears in the background. Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎?, October or November 1760 – May 10, 1849)[1] was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. In his time, he was Japan's leading expert on Chinese painting.[2] Born in Edo (now Tokyo), Hokusai is best-known as author of the woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (富嶽三十六景 Fugaku Sanjūroku-kei?, c. 1831) which includes the internationally recognized print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, created during the 1820s.

Unusual color scheme is clearly visible on the art. Not many artist try to emphasize that as an artist they can see things different so long they look beautiful. This is an UNIQUE image. I bought a bunch of 34 different cards as like to give a different card to each of my friend which makes it very personal. When friends talk with each other, they appreciate the gesture all the more. Also I took advantage of volume pricing. Thanks to Zazzle for allowing to order even one card. I recommend people to buy from Zazzle. Pure Joy. Excellent printing and color tones.
