This design features a painting by Italian artist Francesco Hayez (1791–1882), who is generally is considered to be one of the foremost artists of Romanticism in 19th-century Milan. This painting is perhaps the best known work of Hayez. Its Italian title is "Il bacio", which means "The Kiss". The painting represents a loving couple from the Middle Ages who are in the midst of an embrace as they kiss each other. It is one of the most passionate, intense and emotional representations of a kiss in the entire history of Western art. The painting was first completed in 1859.
