The New England Mansion Postcard

The New England Mansion Postcard

This beautiful New England mansion would have been built some time after the Revolutionary War. The houses of the first settlements were crudely built. Sometimes, they simply dug holes in the ground and used these as their homes. In some places, the settlers emulated the Indians and built bark dwellings. Early New York included about twenty-ni8ne sugh buildings. With time, the construction of the houses improved and hewed logs or planks split or sawd out by hand were used. Chimneys were vary large and the fire places spacious. Most of the early houses used paper for windows rather than glass, which was extremely espensive and difficult to acquire. As wealthier people joined the colonies, houses typical of the one pictured here began to be built, some of which remain standing today. (graphic circa 1850s. Source of Information, Edward Eggleston's "The New Century History of the United States", publised about 1907.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
