They would herd schools of fish into nets, retrieve broken nets and tackle, and act as couriers, delivering messages from ship to ship and ship to shore. The friendly and playful Portuguese Water Dog is very smart and well-known as a breed that's great for people with allergies to hair or dander. The dog's coat comes in two varieties: curly or wavy.
