"The Stacks" at Revolution Mill, Greensboro NC USA Postcard

When my friends and I didn't think to make reservations at the nearby restaurant and found that the wait was too long and the bar packed, we opted to leave and go elsewhere for the evening. On our way in, we had stopped for a minute to capture a few photos. But as we walked back out, minutes later, the light had deepened and I realized the new shots would be even better. This was true. The new shots were better. And this is my favorite. Revolution Mill in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, was originally a textile mill, and served that purpose for a good part of a century. When it closed its doors after many years, they stayed that way for 20 more. Now, the space has been refurbished into a thriving, sprawling presence that features a stunning array of offerings. This includes businesses, loft apartments, artist studios, public art galleries, performance spaces, restaurants, coffee shops and bars. And more. "The Stacks", part of a plaza that connects buildings, are easily located and used as a meeting place. Popular outdoor events in warm months are an understandable draw. A trio of smokestacks seems an unlikely place to hang out. And yet, isn't it also the perfect testament to how so many places and things take on new meaning and purpose as the years pass?
