THE WAITER OF CANNIBALS T-Shirt

Perhaps this portrayal best captures what began about 30 years ago. It was then that consumption became a national pursuit. By the time we crossed the threshold of the 21st century, cannibalism was in full motion and abject human ingestion and abuse were well established. The use of distorted and elongated body forms act to characterize the extent to which, over the past 3 decades humankind has ravaged one another while driving today’s economic model of capitalism. The painting is one of twisted body forms, parts served on a tray, images of heads that once resembled that of humans – with a backdrop of what appears to be an average corporate business sector. Consumption, consumption, consumption, as a tearful waiter serves his clientele – analogous to today’s society wading through a sea of human waste on the path to profit, sustainability, and success. Cannibals we’ve become, cannibals we will remain unless we reverse the current flowing vigorously towards and ocean of decaying flesh…. But wait, amidst the scene of moral declension the waiter assumes a posture of confident servitude. He is poised, as though he understands that the return to humanity is but a movement away – an act of civility removed, a kind gesture within one’s grasp, a sympathetic response waiting to occur, a compassionate look hidden but longing to escape its prison. A ray of hope awaits all of us, just take a stance to serve!
