    Surprise! Tiger in a Tropical Storm (1891) by French post-impressionist artist Henri Rousseau. This oil on canvas piece was the first of the jungle paintings for which the artist is famous. It shows a tiger, illuminated by a flash of lightning, preparing to pounce on its prey in the rain. Rousseau was a self-taught artist and is considered to be a naïve or primitive painter.
