The "DJ T-shirt" or graphic T-shirt movement has an interesting history tied to both music culture and the fashion industry. Here's a breakdown of how this trend evolved:
### 1. **Origins of the T-Shirt (Early 20th Century)**
- The modern T-shirt originated in the early 1900s as an undergarment for workers in factories and soldiers in the military.
- It was during World War II that the T-shirt became more mainstream, as soldiers would wear them casually, influencing broader trends.
### 2. **Rise of Graphic T-Shirts (1950s–1960s)**
- Graphic T-shirts started gaining popularity in the 1950s when printing techniques, like screen printing, became widely available.
- In the 1960s, T-shirts became a canvas for self-expression and counterculture, particularly in the U.S. The peace movement, rock bands, and civil rights activists used T-shirts as a form of protest and promotion.
### 3. **Emergence of Music-Inspired T-Shirts (1970s–1980s)**
- The music scene, especially rock, punk, and later hip-hop, adopted the T-shirt as a way for fans to show their loyalty to bands, DJs, and movements. Tour merch became a staple.
- DJs, as part of the emerging hip-hop culture in the late '70s and '80s, started to play a role in this. Streetwear brands began to mix DJ culture with urban fashion, promoting a distinct style that blurred the lines between music and clothing.
### 4. **DJ Culture and T-Shirt Printing (1990s–2000s)**
- The rise of electronic dance music (EDM) and DJ culture in the 1990s further expanded this trend. DJs like Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, and Daft Punk became icons, and fans began wearing T-shirts featuring DJ logos, catchphrases, and event names.
- Independent T-shirt companies started creating unique designs inspired by the rave scene and DJ culture, often mixing bold graphics with themes like vinyl records, turntables, and soundwaves.
### 5. **Modern Day (2010s–Present)**
- Today, DJ T-shirts are a common form of merchandise for DJs, electronic music festivals, and music events. Fans wear them as a badge of pride, reflecting their affiliation with a specific subculture or artist.
- Big names in the DJ industry, like Deadmau5, Marshmello, and Calvin Harris, have integrated T-shirt designs into their brand identities, and collaborations with fashion brands are common.
- Online platforms and small designers can now easily create DJ-inspired prints, thanks to tools like print-on-demand and social media marketing, allowing the T-shirt culture to remain vibrant and accessible.

My 11 yo wore adult XL (5’7” 165#). The 8yo is small framed. She wore adult small and tied it in the back. Dark haired male wore adult large and 5’9”, 110# female wore adult medium . Good quality dark Heather gray, Gildan brand shirt. -it was next up from basic choice and cost about $20 per shirt. Not too thick or thin. Washed and dried well, no major shrinkage. Not see-through. Can wear a bra under it fine. Screen print is just as shown and well done, front and back.
